History
Mandarin
Antiques &
Pianos
(Mandarin for short) has been in business at
various locations, known by many variations of the name.
Howard Welborn started the business in Lakewood, Washington in 1973.
Since then, his extensive travels and associations have brought about a
wide variety of antique collectibles, statuary, old architectural
elements and pianos.
Today, Mandarin has found itself in a
new light. While the antiques and furnishings here are primarily Asian,
they are combined with
a display of both elegant and modern pianos built primarily in the
United States. Everything is arranged in an
open and attractive setting, inviting leisurely browsing. Come in and
visit, or tickle the ivories—no previous experience necessary!
We
are located on the edge of
Tacoma's
art district within a historic
building. Built in 1923,
it was the home of a Studebaker and Packard auto dealership, the
Winthrop Motor Company. It also housed the Hambone eatery in the
1940's.
Melding the past
with the future,
we provide outstanding sales
and service to antique collectors and musicians of
discerning taste.
